England’s quest for a Northwest route

When Queen Elizabeth I was crowned in 1558, she aggressively sought a Northwest route to India and China. It was thought such a route would lie via the Artic. Many tried and failed.

Then in 1609, The Dutch hired Englishman Henry Hudson to try. Hudson traveled up the bay and river which carry his name today. However, no route existed. He then attempted the Artic route. But he disappeared when his crew mutinied during a harsh winter.

Faith Week 1 of 4

Memory verse Matthew 6:24 “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow ill worry about itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own.” NIV

It is natural to worry about the future. But, when we do that, we are robbing ourselves of God’s blessing.

In psychology, there is a practice called mindfulness. It is used with those of us that deal with depression. It basically says to keep our minds on the here and now, not the past or fu...

Romans Bible Study Week 1

Romans 1:1-17

Romans is one of my favorite books. Paul wrote to those Christians who moved/lived in Roman.

Paul states in verse 1 that he was called to be an apostle. Jesus sought out Paul, and not the other way around. In like manner, we are all called by God to be followers as alluded to in verse 6 “And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.”

He reports how he lifts them up in prayer.in verse...

A book I just read (short story-85 pages) is called Ouija. It is about a highschooler who gets an Ouija Board as a birthday present. The boy is a loner who pines for a girl. He turns to the Ouija for help. Help comes but at a price.

Ouija by James Melzer.

I beleve no horror movie list can be complete without The Exorcist. I first saw this film when it came out in 1973. I was at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi. A friend took me ...

Conquistadors

The next page in American history came in the 1500’s. What Columbus achieved spread throughout Europe, igniting many to imitate him. One such man was Amerigo Vespucci whose first name inspired our name.

Spain funded the Conquistadors (Conquerors), led by Hernan Cortez and Francisco Pizarro. These violent men sweep through Central and South America, as well as Cuba, Mexico, and Florida. They murdered, enslaved, and worked to death all who they encountered.

In 156...

James First Lesson (James 1:1-12)

I am using James Guidelines for a Happy Christian Life, by John MacAcArther, Thomas Nelson (publisher), 2007

As a reminder, I use the NIV Bible.

The author of this Book is James the half brother of Jesus. It was written to the Jews who had fled because of the persecutions inflected on them.

Truth

“What is truth?” Pilate uttered these words. (John 18:38).

Over the next blogs, I am going to examine this topic. We will look at the truth about God, Jesus, Creation, and others.

I will be using a book my oldest son gave me some time ago, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek – Crossway 2004....

It is time for another Horror blog post.

This week I’d like to highlight another short story. This one is called The Haunting of Seafield House (The Spirit Guide Book 1) by Caroline Clark, published by Spooky Night Books, March 30, 2017.

Although this story had a few errors which I believe, because being a short story of 208 pages should have been caught in editing, they were not enou...

Welcome to this first post on my Horror blog.

In this first post, I thought I would talk about a short story I read and one of my favorite horror movies.

The House Next Door: A Ghost Story, by Darcy Coates, is a 282 page eBook published by Amazon Digital Services, LLC I loaded on my Kindle. This is the first time I have read this author, but will not be the last.

This book captured m...
